Celebrating the greatest superpower; MOM
Written By Molly Williams of From Skinny Jeans To Mom Jeans
As mamas we have been given the gift of the most selfless job on the planet. I consider being a mom one giant superpower. We are constantly getting pulled in a million different directions. Our daily routines consist of color coded calendars, franticly looking for our keys, wiping away tears, yelling at our sloth children to get their shoes on, helping with homework, making sure bellies are fed and pouring our hearts into our families. And just when you thought we couldn’t squeeze anymore into our day, we step out of our role as mamas and into another superpower; entrepreneurship, or as we call it momprenuers.
As a stay at home mom to two little ones, I put my passions in a box and tucked them away. I told myself I would eventually pull them back out. For many mamas we are afraid we’d be slapped with the mom guilt from others or be judged for going after something other than our role as mom. So, instead we just stare at our box while it collects dust. But, imagine if we actually listened to these lies? Imagine If we allowed the judgment to control the life we are meant to live? Imagine all the incredible businesses we wouldn’t be experiencing right now. All the unique talent that would never have the opportunity to shine bright. The best piece of advice I ever received encouraged me to pull my box out, brush off the dust and trust. It is perfectly normally to have the desire to pursue passions outside of our kids. It allows an opportunity to fill our cups in a different way, to serve those around us. We are meant to embrace our gifts and share them with others.
Entrepreneurship provides us with the reminder that we were someone before mom, and that person matters. I’ve met so many incredible mamas with so much talent, heart, love and passion for what they do. Through all the tireless late nights, early mornings, coffee runs, defeat, success and sacrifices it’s all worth it. Not only are we coming into the person we are meant to be, but as moms we do this FOR our children. We know they see us. They are watching us work hard for our dreams. It’s important that we keep going for them.
As we come up on a day dedicated to all mamas, I encourage you to be still. Take some time to celebrate YOU. Be proud of your vulnerability and the ability to allow yourself to lean into your passions. To all the mamas out there, I hope you know how incredible you are. You are doing a beautiful job. I see you. I support you. Let your passions out and let your talents be a gift to others. Keep trusting, keep loving on those babies, do not compare and keep being YOU because that person is pretty special.
